Transgenderism: Parents, Don’t Be Misled

What will your baby’s birth certificate say?

The topic of transgenderism is rampant. Parents are certainly in a dilemma about what path to choose: Support it and all its ramifications, ignore it as much as possible, or take a stand against it. We’ll look at some information I’ve come across, and hope it will give personal resolve as to the right approach in your family.

I wrote in my “Back-to-School: Getting Ready” post about a Minnesota school district providing sex change treatment for a seventeen-year-old male student without informing the mother.

There is a lawsuit ongoing in Florida about a transgender teen using the name “Drew” who was born female, and transitioned the summer before his freshman year. Drew was going to school as a boy for the first time. It also meant using the boys’ bathroom. But school officials barred him from the boys’ bathroom. Drew, now 16, said he has missed class trekking to the unisex bathrooms.

Has your child expressed the feeling of being a sex different from that to which the physical attributes attest? Or wants to act on those feelings by becoming transgender? We hear about it so often now, we are tempted to take it as something that is “natural.” It isn’t.

The American Psychiatric Association calls those uncomfortable-in-their-biological-sex feelings “gender dysphoria” and states that gender dysphoria is a mental disorder. This dysfunction was previously known in the psychiatric community as Gender Identity Disorder (GIC). On their website explaining gender dysphoria it says:

While some children express feelings and behaviors relating to gender dysphoria at 4 years old or younger, many may not express feelings and behaviors until puberty or much later. For some children, when they experience puberty, they suddenly find themselves unable to identify with their own body. Some adolescents become unable to shower or wear a bathing suit and/or undertake self-harm behaviors.

And in the Treatment section it says:

A child’s treatment typically involves a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals . . . Treatment may focus primarily on affirming psychological support, understanding feelings and coping with distress, and giving children a safe space to articulate their feelings. For many children the feelings do not continue into adolescence and adulthood. (Emphasis added.)

Dr. Michelle Cretella, President of The America College of Pediatricians, equates promoting a transgender lifestyle with child abuse. Watch an interview with Tucker Carlson, and read a full article of Dr. Cretella’s as it appeared in The Daily Signal.

Among her statements Dr. Cretella says:

Even the American Psychological Association’s Handbook of Sexuality and Psychology admits that prior to the widespread promotion of transition affirmation, 75 to 95 percent of pre-pubertal children who were distressed by their biological sex eventually outgrew that distress. The vast majority came to accept their biological sex by late adolescence after passing naturally through puberty. (Emphasis added.)

Dr. Cretella also emphasized that “By 30 years following [sex reassignment] surgery the completed suicide rate was nearly 20 times that of the general population.” (Emphasis added.)

Those are a few of the medical and psychological facts—but what is a Christian to think of it when applying the Word of God? Focus on the Family, in a Position statement, says:

Not only do male and female together reflect the image of God, but their coming together in a marriage relationship to bring forth new life is used in Scripture as the deepest and most intimate analogy of God’s relationship with His people. Throughout both Testaments, God and His people are portrayed as husband and wife or as a groom and bride. The creation account found in Genesis lays out this gender-based, matrimonial picture and sets the stage for the final, eternal union of God and His people — of Christ and His bride — described in the book of Revelation.

Focus on the Family has also prepared a great free resource titled “When Transgender Issues Enter Your World: How Christians can respond with compassion, courage and truth.”

In Deuteronomy 22:5 (NIV) God says: “A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.” I looked up a number commentaries on this passage, and although there were some differing opinions most agreed with that written by Paul Kretzmann, Ph.D., D.D., in his Popular Commentary of the Bible, Old Testament, Volume 1. He said: “The vessels and clothing referred to include all the special articles of wear and use peculiar to the one or the other sex; for the Lord did not want the children of Israel to ignore the difference of the sexes, as it had been fixed in creation.” Over the years, “The Kretzmann Commentary” has been widely received and praised for its simple, clear explanation of the Bible in language easily understood by lay readers of the Bible.

So there you have medical opinions, psychiatric opinions, and Christian opinions. Now what you believe, how you talk to your kids, how you react in your community is up to you. Pray to the Lord for guidance and strength. Please let me and others know how you will use this information.

Back to School: What to Expect

CAUTION – Tell your kids not to believe everything they’re going to read and hear.

What do your kids, and you, expect as they head back to school? Seeing their friends again? Learning something cool? Are they wondering what their new teacher will be like? Probably all those things.

But are you expecting something more? Perhaps a true representation of our great American history? Truth in their science courses that discuss earth’s origin and climate change? If you do, I applaud your optimism. The chances of those things happening if your kids are attending a public school range from slim to none.

I say that, even though I am a basically optimistic person, because I’ve studied what’s been happening, and is continuing to happen. If you haven’t read my book Who’s Got Dibs on Your Kids? yet (I sometimes call it Dibs), this might be a good time to do that. In my opinion, it is vital for you to prepare your kids ahead of time for what they most likely will be taught in school. Teach them yourself what the truth is.

I’m bringing this up now because I just read a quote of Vladimir Lenin that chilled me to the bone. He wrote:

We must be ready to employ trickery, deceit, law-breaking, withholding and concealing truth. We can and we must write in a language that sows among the masses hatred, scorn, and the like towards those who disagree with us. (Emphasis added.)

Lenin was born in 1870 and died in 1924, but we can see his hateful plans still alive and well in our own country today. Does that sound over the top? Let’s take a look at it.

Don’t believe everything in the textbooks

Trickery and deceit were definitely employed in Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth, which taught our children that our world was doomed if we didn’t drastically reduce our carbon footprint immediately. Add to that the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) which are probably in use in your kid’s school. (See page 45 of Dibs) Those standards require climate change instruction. One of the high school course descriptions reads: “Use a computational representation to illustrate the relationships among Earth systems and how those relationships are being modified due to human activity.”

Please note this does not ask the student to determine if Earth systems are being modified by human activity, but how.

If you haven’t noticed the acceptance, possibly encouragement, of law-breaking on college campuses, you need to take a little time off from your daily chores. Look at some video clips of students preventing speakers from conveying their ideas with shouting, physical endangerment, and destruction of private property.

I could cite countless examples of schools withholding and concealing the truth, but to keep it simple, let’s look at just one textbook on American history. The Florida Citizens Alliance has done a great job checking textbooks. One portion from their report on (2015) Modern World History, 9th Grade Teacher Edition, covering the Section on the American Revolution reveals that:

  • The debating between the Federalist and the Anti-Federalists is distorted.
  • The Federalist position was entirely misrepresented.

Signing the Constitution

  • There is no mention of the thirteen colonies declaring their independence as thirteen independent Nation states.
  • There is no mention of our Constitution being a legal document that created the federal government.
  • No mention that the Constitution gave only eighteen very well-defined and very limited powers to the federal government.
  • No mention of the extensive debates that led to the Bill of Rights and particularly why we have a 9th and 10th amendment.
  • The textbook states “colonial leaders eventually recognized the need for a strong national government” which is not true. Our Constitution was carefully crafted to limit federal government powers.

The Florida Citizens Alliance rank this section on American History as having 1) Bias 2) Omission of Fact 3) Half-Truth and 4) Factual Error.

This definitely falls into the withholding and concealing the truth category and, as I said before, is only one small example of how our kids are being misled. How can we expect them to realize how truly exceptional our country is if they are not told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Back to Lenin’s statement—he continues: “sows among the masses hatred, scorn, and the like towards those who disagree with us.” Have you heard the words homophobe, xenophobe, Islamophobe, misogynist, racist, sexist? Can you honestly say those words do not sow “hatred, scorn and the like towards those who disagree with us?” How is our culture today different from that espoused by Lenin? Will your kids experience this in school?

These are but a few examples of how some are trying to lead our kids on paths away from truth, patriotism, and God. As a parent you must prepare your kids for being confronted with these realities. Teach them the truth, and that God’s love that endures all things.

Tell me, Mellon, when did we let evil become stronger than us?

ABCs, 123s, and Gender Identity

What will your child learn this fall in public school kindergarten?

Is your son or daughter starting kindergarten this year? What do you expect they’ll learn? ABCs? All about numbers? Or are you hoping for indoctrination in gender identity? If you live in the state of Washington, they will probably be taught the first two, but they will definitely learn the third.

This fall, 2017, Washington state public schools will begin teaching gender expression to kindergarteners under their new health education learning standards, where “sexual health” becomes a core idea of public K–12 education. In kindergarten students will be expected to “Understand there are many ways to express gender.”

The state has even developed a glossary so the kids can double-check the differences between gender, gender expression, biological sex, and so on.

Nathan Olson, a communications manager for the statewide Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), said, “The standards [K-12] don’t define ‘gender spectrum.’ But self-identity is a key component.”

As the standards continue through the twelfth grade, the students eventually will be able to “Distinguish between biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation,” and “Evaluate how culture, media, society, and other people influence our perceptions of gender roles, sexuality, relationships, and sexual orientation.” Notice they don’t mention public school instruction as one of the methods of influencing children’s perception of those sexual matters.

The reporter from The Daily Caller asked whether a student who rejects the idea that “gender identity” is distinct from “biological sex” could end up failing a course on account of their beliefs. Olson replied that “we don’t exactly know what a school would do if a student failed to complete an assignment because he/she opposed the materials being taught.”

You can watch a short video of one parent’s response to these new health education learning standards.

This type of indoctrination is not limited to the state of Washington, however. Fairfax County, Virginia, is teaching our kids that there is no such thing as 100 percent boys or 100 percent girls.
What is being taught in your state? Does it matter to you? Although the report is that parents in Washington were furious when they learned of the new lessons plans, you may not be. I’d like to hear from you and learn whether you feel such instruction in public schools is a good thing or not.

Personally, I have to base my decision on God’s Word. He tells us in Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” I don’t see any ambiguousness there.
