Jesus told us: “If you love me, you will obey my commandments” (John 14:15). In recent years it has become increasingly difficult for Christians to stand firm in our commitment to openly display our love for him in that way. It is now not “politically correct” to be overt about our Christian beliefs, and society allows Christians to be attacked through legal means for doing so.
That’s why the resolution passed by the Oklahoma House of Representatives on May 8, 2017, was a shocker. It declares abortion to be murder! It also calls out the U.S. Supreme Court for granting women permission to have elective abortions.
Granted, this resolution, passed on a voice vote without any debate, will effect no legal changes on anything. It has no teeth, but it does have courage. It enjoins public officials to “stop the murder of innocent unborn children by abortion.”
This House Resolution 1004 begins:
A Resolution directing every public official in Oklahoma to exercise their authority to stop murder of unborn children by abortion; directing Oklahoma judges not to interfere with Legislature’s right to clarify Oklahoma criminal law; and directing distribution.
WHEREAS, all human life is protected by God’s law and the highest laws of the land:
•the Declaration of Independence explains that all human beings are created in the image of God, and are thus endowed by their Creator with the unalienable right to life;
•the Constitution of the United States mandates that no state shall deprive any human being of life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness without due process of law, nor deny to any human being within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws; and
WHEREAS, elective abortion deprives human beings of the protections of these laws; and . . .
According to The Hill, “Oklahoma has already enacted strict rules aimed at limiting abortions performed in the state. A woman seeking an abortion must undergo counseling and wait 72 hours before getting an abortion. Health insurance plans offered under the Affordable Care Act may only cover abortions performed if the mother’s life is in danger. Parents of minors seeking abortions must be notified before the procedure takes place. And abortions performed after 20 weeks are banned unless the woman’s life is at risk.”
Legislation such as this can only happen when citizens care enough to elect legislators who will enact laws that will protect the lives of unborn children. Let me know what actions are being pursued in your state that may be similar to the laws and resolutions in Oklahoma.
My blogs previously were located on my website DibsOnYourKids.com but seemed to be getting lost in the shuffle. Therefore, I’ve started this new stand-alone blog that I call “God’s Path for Kids.” It will contain the same news here regarding the paths the Pied Pipers are using to lead our kids away from God as the previous blogs The Pipers’ Paths and Standing Firm did. You can find all my previous posts back on the other website.
